Le Bistrot Pierre will open a restaurant in Kidderminster on 30 June. It will be in the Riverside Walk retail and leisure development, and is the brand’s third opening in the West Midlands in the last year, following Mere Green in Sutton Coldfield and Gas Street in Birmingham.
Drake & Morgan has officially launched its latest bar and restaurant, the Bothy, on West India Quay. It is a 11,500 square feet venue with 200 covers across a ground-floor bar and lower ground-floor restaurant, plus an outdoor terrace.
Gaucho opened on Colmore Row in Birmingham on Monday (8 May). It is a 120-cover restaurant and Gaucho’s first new opening in seven years.
Wagamama is opening a major new restaurant at the Bretonside development at Drakes Circus in Plymouth. British Land is lining up several other operators for the project.
California-based burger concept The Counter and Built is to open in London and Glasgow under franchise. The two operations are build-your-own burger operations offering more than a million different permutations on ingredients. The Counter will launch at the Quay in Glasgow in the summer, following by Built in Ilford in London. It will trigger an expansion that franchisee Daniel Johns thinks can reach around 20 locations in the next five years. Jeff Weinstein, founder and chief executive of The Counter, said: “We’re excited about bringing our new burger experience to the UK—we often find that international travellers take a special interest in our US locations, so it only made sense to bring that excitement of the build-your-own-burger concept to their markets. We know in the UK market there is an appetite for gourmet burgers and with our custom build burgers we feel we can bring a new and unique offering.”
Steakhouse concept Miller & Carter will open at Washford Mill in Studley in June.
Young’s is opening a pub and restaurant at the Lexicon development in Bracknell. It has taken on a Grade II listed building in the area, and will launch it in September. Chief executive Patrick Dardis said: “We are delighted to be opening our first pub in Berkshire at the heart of this exciting development.”
Revolution Bars Group has secured approval for an opening of its Revolucion de Cuba brand on Temple Street in Birmingham. It will convert two floors into seating for 84 and 79 covers.
Stonegate Pub Company is launching a new Popworld nightclub in Leeds in a couple of weeks. It follows a refurb of the former Baa Bar venue on Millennium Square in the city.
Fuller’s Docklands pub The Gun has just launched a pop-up space for the summer called the Gin Garden. It will be open on Friday afternoons and evenings and all day at weekends, and will sell around 30 different gins.
Zizzi will open at the St Stephen’s centre in Hull in June. It is part of a conversion of an old bingo hall there that will create several other restaurant units.
Noodle brand Chopstix has submitted an application for change of use on a unit in the Sailmakers shopping centre in Ipswich. It would be its first opening in Suffolk.

Scotland-based Italian restaurant concept Tony Macaroni opens in Dundee in the next few weeks, local media report. The group will open launch a branch of its new Mozza pizza concept in the town, as well as in St Andrew’s.
The Burning Night Group has lined up an opening of a large site for its Potting Shed bar concept on the top floor and roof of the Trinity Leeds shopping centre. It will have three different bars called the Potting Shed, Orchard and Secret Garden, and capacity for 600 people in all. Chief executive Allan Harper said: “The Potting Shed is a truly home-grown Yorkshire brand and signing this sought-after rooftop space at Trinity Leeds is perfect for us.
Côte has confirmed an opening at Gloucester Quays In the next few weeks. It will have 112 covers and an outdoor area.
Café Rouge is to open in South Africa under franchise with Gold Brands. The first launch will be in Johannesburg in July, followed by ten restaurants over the next five years.
A new rooftop cocktail bar called Sisu has opened on Oxford Street, close to Marble Arch tube station. It has been developed by the team behind last year’s NotchLDN pop-up, and has features including a coin-operated cocktail tap. There is a semi-private dining area for groups called RetrEat, with international street food style food.
Ziferblat, the Russia-based pay-as-you-stay café concept that opened its first UK branch in London three years ago, has opened at MediaCityUK on Salford Quays. It charges eight pence per minute for unlimited tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits and snacks, plus access to services including Wi-Fi. Ziferblat also has a location in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
Camm & Hooper is to launch its sixth event space—Grace Hall on Leadenhall Street in the City. It will launch in the autumn with four different rooms for events.
