Healthy on the go brand Pod opens its first new branch in nearly five years tomorrow (22 July)—on Kingsway in London. It is a 1,600 square feet unit with features including digital menu screens and free delivery for orders over £25. It is marking the opening with a giveaway of 400 lunches and 50% off in the first week. The Kingsway store is Pod’s 23rd location in all.
Fuller’s latest new opening takes place on Tuesday (26 July) with the launch of The Astronomer on Middlesex Street near Liverpool Street station. Previously the Shooting Star, the pub has opened after a two-month refurbishment.
The Stable, the pizza and cider concept backed by Fuller’s, will open its latest new restaurant in Kew next Friday (29 July). It will be the brand’s 15th restaurant in all, and its second in London. The riverside restaurant has a large piazza, and some pizzas will be named after local landmarks. A ‘Tuck In Tuesday’ promotion will offer pizzas, side salad and drink for £10.
Revolution Bars Group has confirmed three more openings for its just-started financial year—in Harrogate, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Contracts, licensing and planning consents have been exchanged on all three. It follows a recent Revolution opening in Stafford and a new Revolucion de Cuba bar in Liverpool. Revolution revealed the openings while reporting like for like sales growth of 2.3% in its financial year to end-June.
Caribbean operator Turtle Bay has set 23 August for its new opening at the Guildhall retail and leisure development on Queen Street in Exeter, local media report. Several other brands, including The Stable, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Le Comptoir Libanais, are also signed up to the new development.
Harry Ramsden’s opened its landmark new restaurant at Blackpool Tower today (21 July). The site has 200 covers plus takeaway facilities, gin, craft beer and cocktail bars and smoothie and juicing stations. It is selling rotisserie and grilled dishes as well as fish and chips. The restaurant is the result of a £2.1m spend, with Blackpool council contributing £400,000. Chief executive Joe Teixeira said: “Harry’s is moving into the next phase of its evolution, where we book-end our classic and most loved favourite dishes with a new range of innovative, tasty and great value options served in modern day, seaside surroundings, and we are thrilled to showcase this brand new face of Harry Ramsden’s in the North’s favourite town. We believe Blackpool’s most iconic landmark is the ideal location from which to unveil the modern day face of Harry’s, as both brands combine the proudest of heritages wrapped up firmly in a family focus.”
Gourmet Burger Kitchen has confirmed an opening at Clarks Village in Street in Somerset.
Loungers will open a new Lounge at the Grosvenor shopping centre in Northampton. It will be a two-floor site and should be open by the end of the year.
Wasabi will open in Oxford in the autumn, local media report.
Bundobust, a Leeds-based craft beer and Indian street food concept, is to open its second venue in Piccadilly in Manchester. It should be ready in September.
Brands including Burger King and Starbucks have opened at the redeveloped Sarn Park services off the M4. It comes eight months after the closure of the services for refurbishment. Starbucks has a 24-hour drive-through there.
New World Trading Company, formerly run by Living Ventures but now backed by Graphite Capital, is to launch a second Smugglers Cove concept at Brindleyplace in Birmingham. The concept offers a big variety of rums and cocktails and already operates at Albert Dock in Liverpool.
The Imbiba-backed Camm & Hooper group has picked up a fifth site—Six Storeys on Soho Square. The venue will include hire space as well as a restaurant and bar.
Tom Aikens’ Tom’s Kitchen concept will open a restaurant at the Mailbox development in Birmingham in December—its first location outside of London. The brand already has restaurants in Chelsea, Somerset House, Canary Wharf, St Katharine’s Docks and on HMS Belfast on the Thames.
