New openings round-up

Brands including MOD Pizza, Franco Manca, Turtle Bay, Itsu, Miller & Carter and Five Guys are among those with new opening plans to report this week.

Marston’s Revere division is to roll out its Lost & Found bar and restaurant brand with openings on Greek Street in Leeds in August and Knutsford in September. The brand has a botanical theme with classic cocktails, plus sourdough pizzas. The expansion follows the launch of the first Lost & Found in Birmingham. Revere has meanwhile set up another new brand called Foundry Project, which will offer cocktails, craft beer, pizzas, burgers and speciality coffee. The first branch will be on Queensferry Street in Edinburgh in the next few weeks, with a second site to follow later this year, in a location still to be confirmed. Revere managing director Colin Sadler said: “We are in discussions on further locations and believe 2016/2017 will be a transformational year for Revere.”

Restaurant and bakery group Le Pain Quotidien is to make its first move into the north of England with an opening at the Victoria Gate development in Leeds. It has taken a 487 square metre unit at the development, which opens later this year. Peter Jenkins, Managing Director at Le Pain Quotidien, added: “We are very excited to be opening the first Le Pain Quotidien in the north of the UK. Leeds was an obvious choice as we continue with our UK expansion due to its wide regional and national appeal.”

Cocktail bar brand Dirty Martini has acquired a ninth site: the Mint group’s Mary-Jane’s on Minories. It will spend £1.2m on the 6,500 square feet venue before reopening. Dirty Martini has seven sites at the moment, all in London, and will open an eighth in Cardiff in October. The Mint group says it will now concentrate on rolling out its Mommi restaurant and bar business.

MOD Pizza, the US concept now being imported into the UK, has secured a site on Irving Street by Leicester Square, previously occupied by Caffe Concerto. It will be a first London restaurant for the brand when it opens in November. The brand has also picked up sites in Newcastle and Nottingham as it looks to hit the ground running in the UK. It already has a location in Leeds with another to follow in Brighton soon.

Fulham Shore says it will open new branches of Franco Manca in Southampton and Reading as well as London sites in Victoria and Putney. The news comes as Franco Manca prepares to open its latest new restaurants in Kentish Town and Bromley in the next few weeks. Announcing its latest financial results, Fulham Shore said it would be growing the Franco Manca brand nationally.

Rosa’s Thai Café has acquired a site on Atlantic Road in Brixton. It will have 74 covers across 2,000 square feet of space. It will be the brand’s eighth location when it opens in the autumn.

Turtle Bay has set 5 August for the opening of its latest new restaurant in Chelmsford.

Koh Thai Tapas is opening its 11th restaurant later this week, in Romsey in Hampshire. It is also the brand’s third restaurant in Hampshire.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen opened in the Flemingate shopping centre in Beverley on Monday (11 July). It is the brand’s 73rd UK restaurant.

Bristol-based all-day café concept Boston Tea Party will open a sixth site in the city in the autumn. It has taken a unit at the Square development in Cheswick.

Mitchells & Butlers is to open a branch of its Miller & Carter steakhouse brand at the BH2 leisure development in Bournemouth. The complex is due to open in February.

Five Guys will open at Leicester’s Meridian leisure park in mid-September. It will be a second restaurant in the city for the fast growing brand.

Itsu has applied to open in Nottingham, local media report. It continues an expansion for the brand beyond London.

Iceland-based burger concept Tommi’s has confirmed an opening on Berwick Street in Soho in the next few weeks. It joins two other branches in Marylebone and King’s Road.

The Coya group of Peruvian restaurants says it will open a new location in London next year as part of continued international expansion. It already has one in the capital, on Piccadilly, as well as restaurants in Miami and Dubai, and is also planning more restaurants in Shanghai, Singapore and Seoul.

Carluccio’s has confirmed an opening in Cork, Irish media report. It has taken a unit in the town’s Huguenot Quarter. The restaurant joins two Irish branches in Dublin. Carluccios continue to look for new sites across the UK, click here to view them.

Peyton & Byrne will open its fifth catering outlet in mid-August: the Botanical at Kew Gardens. It will be a 3,300 square feet and 130-cover restaurant, and Kew’s first all-day table service operation. Food will be largely plant-based and there will be botanical cocktails. Peyton & Byrne founder Oliver Peyton said: “This is a really exciting new project, and we look forward to working closely with Kew to grow the ‘Why Plants Matter’ concept through the dishes we will serve and the ambient restaurant space we will create.”

Fuller’s has acquired the Gun pub in Docklands, previously owned by the ETM group.

JD Wetherspoon will open two new pubs next Tuesday (19 July): Sandford House in Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, and the White Hart in Okehampton. The latter has a hotel in place, while a 22-room hotel follows on the Huntingdon site in October. View JD Wetherspoon’s property requirements here.

Frankie & Benny’s has confirmed an opening at the Anchor Retail Park in Hartlepool. It should be open late this year or early next.

New barbecue concept MeatUp has just opened on Old York Road in Wandsworth.

Stonegate Pub Company has reopened the Cannick Tapps pub on Cannon Street in the City after a £200,000 refurb.

A new Japanese restaurant concept called Sakagura will open on Heddon Street in London in the autumn. It is a joint venture between the Japan Centre Group, sake brand Gekkeikan, plum wine brand Choya, as well as one of the world’s most exclusive sushi experiences, the Araki restaurant and the Toridoll Corporation. Features will include a robata grill, a traditional kappo counter by chefs and a dedicated saka bar.

A new branch of Papa John’s has opened in Pontypridd in Wales.

Three Cheers Pub Co’s Latchmere pub in Battersea is opening a pop-up rum and cachaca bar in mid-August, to coincide with the Rio Olympics.
