New openings round-up

Brands including Red's True Barbecue, Harry Ramsden's, MeatUp, Barburrito, Thaikhun, Cure + Cut,  Belpassi Bros and Brewhouse & Kitchen, are among those with new opening plans to report this week. 

Red’s True Barbecue will open its eighth restaurant in Newcastle in the autumn. It has secured a 4,100 square feet unit on the ground floor of the intu Eldon Square complex in the city, which has recently been overhauled. The restaurant will have 300 covers and have features including outdoor seating, street-level bar and live music. Co-founder Scott Munro said: “Newcastle has been on the cards for a while so we’re stoked we can finally reveal the news. The location is spot on for us in terms of our audience, and with a new creative design approach our believers will see a further step on for the brand and their dining experience.”

Harry Ramsden’s has reached the milestone of 50 sites in the UK with an opening in Swanage on Monday (27 June). The brand has doubled now its number of outlets in the last 18 months. The Swanage restaurant has 145 covers.

Anglian Country Inns has acquired a seventh site—the King’s Head in Letheringsett near Holt in Norfolk. It has four guest bedrooms as well as bar and eating areas. It joins two other AC Inns in Norfolk, plus four in Hertfordshire. Managing director James Nye said: “The King’s Head is a very welcome addition to our growing hospitality estate.”

A new all-day café concept called Rail House Café will open as part of the Nova development in Victoria in September. It has been developed by Village London Central, the group founded by Adam White that is behind The Riding House Café in Fitzrovia and Village East in Bermondsey. It will have 330 covers over two floors, plus 90 more outdoors. It will join concepts already confirmed for Nova including Bone Daddies, Barbecoa, Shake Shack and Franco Manca.

MeatUp, a new casual all-day restaurant and bar concept, will open on Old York Road in Wandsworth in the next couple of weeks. It will offer aged steaks, ribs, burgers, shellfish and salads, plus craft beers and cocktails. The restaurant are looking to expand across London, click here to view their property requirements

Hawaiian concept Ahi Poké has officially opened on Percy Street in Fitzrovia today (30 June).

Byron, Ed’s Easy Diner, Wagamama and Giraffe are all opening at the intu Bromley shopping centre this weekend.

Côte opened its latest new restaurant in Welwyn Garden City on Monday (27 June). It is its 78th location in all.

ASK Italian and Byron have just opened at the Albert Street development in Harrogate.

Thai street food brand Thaikhun has been confirmed for an opening at the Highcross shopping centre later this year, the Leicester Mercury reports, having had its planning application approved.

Thaikhun, Le Comptoir Libanais and Absurd Bird have all been confirmed for openings at the SouthGate shopping centre in Bath.

The Intertain group has opened its previously announced new Chicago Rib Shack at its Camden Lock site, now refurbished as the TE Dingwall Building. It follows a licence agreement with the American barbecue concept.

Belpassi Bros, a new restaurant concept from the team behind the Spitalfields Meatball Truck, will open in Tooting at the end of July. It has been set up by Livio and Lorenzo Belpassi and will have meatballs as its focal point.

Brewhouse & Kitchen has opened its 13th location in Bedford. It is one of three Wetherspoon pubs it acquired recently.

French brasserie, patisserie and boulangerie Aubaine is to launch its first Aubaine Deli in Covent Garden at the end of July. It will provide table service as well as takeaways, with 15 covers inside and 40 outside. Chief executive Nick Young said: “We are delighted to be opening in Covent Garden. Aubaine is incredibly proud of its bakery and boulangerie, and our first Aubaine Deli will showcase this. It is an exciting step for us as we look to expand and build our business and brand.” Aubaine currently has nine London restaurants in Brompton Cross, Regent Street, Kensington, Mayfair, Wimbledon, Selfridges, Marylebone, Broadgate Circle and Hyde Park, plus another in Dubai.

Japanese restaurant Sumosan Is relocating from its location on Albemarle Street in Mayfair to Sloane Street in Knightsbridge. It will have a 150-cover lounge and a 180-cover restaurant and bar across two levels.

Dominique Ansel Bakery, the first UK location from US celebrity pasty chef Dominique Ansel, will launch on Rupert Street in London in early September. It will be a European flagship for Ansel.

Cure + Cut, a new deli-cum-café with the emphasis on home-cured meats, will open on Seven Dials on 11 July. It will be a two-floor operation with the deli on the ground floor and counter seating downstairs.

Papa John’s has just opened in Grantham.

Tex Mex operator Taco Bell is opening its first drive-through location in the UK at Meridian Point in Cleethorpes in the next couple of weeks.

Costa and KFC have both had plans for drive-through locations at the Gallagher Leisure Park in Edinburgh approved. KFC continue to actively look for new sites across the UK, click here for further information of their requirements.

The RED Market’s Last Days of Shoreditch operation will open to a new clutch of street food traders this weekend, including Spit & Roast, Na Pizza Fritt, Duck It, Taco Dave and We Serve Humans.

US-based frozen yoghurt chain Menchie’s is opening its first store in Europe at the intu Lakeside centre. The brand has 500 sites in 13 countries, and will join the new leisure extension being developed at Lakeside. Franchisee Benny Shahar said: “We’re really looking forward to introducing the high quality yogurt and friendly atmosphere of Menchie’s to Europe for the first time with our new intu Lakeside store.” Intu regional director Rebecca Ryman said: “Intu Lakeside is exactly the right space for exciting brands like Menchie’s to firmly establish themselves within the UK and European markets for the first time.”
