The Breakfast Club, Krispy Kreme and Brewdog are the three fastest growing companies in the eating and drinking out sectors, the new Growth Company Index from AlixPartners reveals.
The fifth edition of the report shows that The Breakfast Club has seen profit growth of 147% over the last two years, with turnover now up to £10m. The all-day dining brand, which is a new entry on the index this year, now has ten cafes, including one in Brighton as well as nine in London.
Krispy Kreme is just behind The Breakfast Club on the list with profit growth of 146% as it continues a major expansion into the UK. Brewdog, second on last year’s index, has seen profits grow 138%.
The rest of the top ten on AlixPartners’ index features Bill’s (growth of 120%), Leon (118%), Wahaca (96%), Loungers (76%), Ed’s Easy Diner (71%), Corbin & King (65%) and the New World Trading Company (63%).
The index is based on profit growth over the last two years—taking in companies’ last three sets of annual accounts—and operators must have turnover of at least £3m to qualify. AlixPartners’ report also highlights trends in the market and priorities for the sector for the year ahead, plus commentary from industry experts including CGA Peach’s Peter Martin. Martin writes in the report: “The market looks like it will continue to evolve at a pace, and we will see those operators that are able to embrace this evolution at the upper echelons of future editions of the AlixPartners Growth Company Index.”
