Time Out has confirmed that it will open a major new street food market in Shoreditch next year. It will be a 19,250 square feet space hosting shops, galleries and a cookery school as well as restaurants and bars, and should open in the second half of 2017. It will be modeled on Time Out’s market in Lisbon, the success of which has prompted it to explore international opportunities. Time Out chief executive Julio Bruno said: “I’m absolutely delighted to announce that we will be bringing our unique Time Out Market format to London. This is not only one of the world’s most vibrant and exciting cities, but also the birthplace of our iconic brand… Inspiring and enabling people to experience the best of a city is at the heart of everything we do. Now we’re bringing this ethos to life in Time Out Market, which we believe Londoners and visitors are going to love. It will be uniquely designed location to capture the very soul of this great city.
Revolution Bars Group will open its tenth Revolucion de Cuba site tomorrow (14 October) in Harrogate. The bar and restaurant is in the town’s dining quarter on Parliament Street, and is spread over two flows with a Havana Bar. Revolution chief executive Mark McQuater said: “We are delighted to be opening the doors to our latest Revolución de Cuba. This will be our tenth branch of the highly successful concept and we have another two opening before Christmas.“
Cote opens its latest new brasserie in Godalming on Monday (17 October). It has spent around £1m on the renovation of a Grade II listed building on the town’s high street. Chief executive Alex Scrimgeour said: “We are thrilled to be opening right in the centre of this charming town. Godalming has a really lovely buzz, and we look forward to becoming part of that.”
Thaikhun opened at the revamped Little Southgate dining quarter in Bath last Friday (7 October). It has spent £900,000 on a 4,200 square feet unit with an open kitchen, bar and outdoor dining area. It has 154 covers. It is Thaikhun’s first restaurant in the south west and ninth in all, joining locations in Manchester, Guildford, Nottingham, Oxford, Cambridge, Glasgow, Newcastle and Aberdeen. Managing director Ian Leigh said: “We are delighted to bring Thaikhun to Bath and hope that our new restaurant will offer something a little different for diners in the area.”
Shoryu Ramen will soon open its first restaurant outside London—on Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester. It has taken a 1,500 square feel unit, which will join its seven restaurants in London.
Busaba Eathai launched its latest new restaurant on Eastcastle Street near Oxford Circus on Tuesday (11 October). It is a 180-cover restaurant and the first in an evolved ‘Bangkok Thai’ concept that is modeled on the Thai capital. Busaba Eathai chief executive Jason Myers said: “The first Busaba opened just a stone’s throw away from Oxford Circus on Soho’s Wardour Street and remains one of our busiest restaurant with queues today, 17 years later. We’re thrilled that there continues to be growing demand for Busaba’s unique Thai food and hospitality offer, allowing us to open a brand new flagship West End restaurant in Eastcastle Street. We look forward to the continued growth of the restaurant group, both in London and beyond.”
Rockfish, the fish group operated by Mitch Tonks, is to open a fifth restaurant in Exmouth. Its other four are in Brixham, Dartmouth, Plymouth and Torquay.
A new chicken restaurant and bar concept called Fancy Funkin Chicken has just opened on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton. It has been set up by Nathan Pattie, Rollo Weeks and Lars Larson, formerly of PIX, Sketch and The Cuckoo Club respectively, and is selling upmarket fried chicken, burgers and sides along with craft beers and house cocktails. It is occupying a 50-cover unit on Coldharbour Lane.
Cambridge street food concept Steak and Honour is opening a permanent new restaurant in the city, local media report. It has taken a 40-cover unit on Wheeler Street near the Corn Exchange, and should open in early December, local media report.
JKS Restaurants is launching Motu, a new Indian delivery service. It will offer ‘Feast Boxes’ of main dishes plus sides and condiments, and will be based in Battersea, with delivery to nearby areas through Deliveroo.
Marco Pierre White’s Black & White group is opening its fourth restaurant in London—Marco’s New York Italian at the Mercure London Bloomsbury hotel. It is the 14th Marco’s New York Italian in the UK in all.
Caribbean concept Sugar Dumplin will open two new sites in the next few months: at the London Designer Outlet in Wembley in November and at Trinity Kitchen in Leeds in early 2017. It already has three locations—in Glasgow, Camberley and Kingston
The team behind the Brazilian brand Fazenda is to open a new casual concept modeled on the rodizio way of eating, called Picanha in Chester. Fazenda now operates in Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester, and its new operation will have a smaller and cheaper menu, in a 6,000 square feet unit on Newgate Street. Tomas Maunier, founder of City District Group, said: “Chester is an exciting place for eating out right now and we are glad to be joining the party… Our success with Fazenda shows us that south American flavours and atmosphere are really loved by a wide range of people in the UK, and we plan to roll out more Picanhas after Chester.”
Fuller’s is close to acquiring the Albert Arms pub in Esher, according to local reports.
